Christmas Crackers: 6 of The Best Novelty Gifts For Him

Posted on May 21 2019 - 4:59am by Ella

It’s that time of year again! Christmas is just around the corner and the shops are full of harassed looking people scurrying to get all their presents ahead of the big day. Whether you’re one of them (me!) or one of the smug ones who had it all wrapped up weeks ago, a little novelty factor always put’s the finishing touches on Christmas. Here’s a quick run-down of my favourite funny stocking fillers for the men in your life.

  • Phone Charging Wallet

OK, if it had room for my gazillion membership and loyalty cards, this one would be right at the top of my Christmas list too. As it is, this wonderful little gadget is probably one of the best gifts for him you could find. With space for a sensible number of cards and a compact design, it does all the things you’d expect from a wallet, with the notable exception of a handy little boost pack. Just plug your phone in when you need a bit more juice, and you’re off!

  • Wine Aerator

Not for everyone, but guaranteed to please the budding sommelier in the family. Of course, there’s two routes you can head down. Opt for a smart and sensible one that doesn’t need explaining when it comes out at dinner parties or go for the novelty value. Red wine poured through Rudolph’s mouth anyone?

  • Cufflinks

A novelty twist on a classic, you can pretty much take your pick of the market. Flashing cufflinks? Check. Novelty designs? Definitely. Combination of both? I haven’t found them yet, but I’m sure they’re out there.

  • Nordic Ankle Wellies

I’m only putting these in novelty because I know if I gave them to my Dad, that’s how my Mum would view them. In reality I think they’re really rather practical. Great for summertime D.I.Y in the garden or popping to the shed, they even have special grip for slippery surfaces and come only in sensible colours.

  • Gourmet Trotter

A what? Well quite. Think golf clubs meet picnic basket and you won’t go far wrong. This is one for the serious picnic goers – I have it on good authority both Prince Philip and Prince Andrew love theirs. With a long cylindrical design and multiple compartments, this giant picnic hamper has it’s own set of wheels. It also comes complete with a full porcelain dinner set (for three courses), salt and pepper grinders, cutlery and coffee cups. I’m pretty sure it’s better stocked than my first kitchen.

  • Remote Control Helicopter

Apparently it’s OK to give grown men toys providing they can control them from their phones. Who knew? This gadget is a definite crowd pleaser, just don’t be surprised if you’re short-handed for the washing up on the big day. It’s pretty hard to watch these things fly and not want to have a go. Just download the app for Android or iPhone and your mobile instantly becomes the remote control for whatever aircraft model you chose to buy him. Some of the more expensive models even have a camera attached that feedback to your phone. I might give that one a miss though, not sure our neighbours would be too happy about being spied on by a drone!
