Yummy mummy is a phrase that is used a lot these days and it conjures up an image of wealthy, well-groomed mothers with perfect outfits and nails to match. When you first take on motherhood, there are times when that vision seems impossible. However, with a little bit of effort, anything is possible. You don’t have to rich and glamorous to be a yummy mummy. It is all about making small changes that make you feel better about yourself.
The most important thing is to take care of yourself. It is all too easy to devote your time to your little ones and their routine, but as their mother, you need to be looked after too. Take time to eat healthily and however little time or sleep you have had, try to avoid those quick fix sugary snacks and junk food. For all of the calories they give you, you will only get a short burst of energy and a feeling of lethargy afterwards. Snack on fruit and healthy snacks and make sure that you take time to have proper meals and drink lots of water. Your skin and hair will thank you for it.
If your children are past the baby stage, the chances are that they wake up a little later in the morning. Get up ten or twenty minutes before them as those precious child free minutes can make all the difference to your daily routine. It will give you the chance to get ready, take a shower, put on some make-up and do your hair without anyone else demanding your attention. If they are still sleeping, take a few minutes to catch up with some parenting information online.
Having a beauty routine does not mean spending endless amounts of money on expensive skincare products and make-up. Most supermarkets offer a range of products that work just as well at a fraction of the cost. Make sure you stock up when you are doing your weekly shop.
Keep clothes simple and organised. Being a mum does not mean that you have to be frumpy. Keeping your wardrobe simple and organised can really help when you are short of time in the morning. If you have more time at the weekend, maybe try putting outfits together for the week so that you can grab them when you are in a hurry. If you are happy wearing jeans every day, wear jeans but if your usual style is more glamourous, there is nothing wrong in sticking on a dress and heels.
Finally, find a style that suits you. Magazines are filled with glossy images of celebrity mums all looking perfectly stylish and that is great for them. Real life parenting can leave you feeling tired and lacklustre and there will be days when you don’t feel yummy at all. Don’t let those perfect images put pressure on you, a few simple changes will set you well on the way to feeling like a yummy mummy. If you feel good about yourself, that is all that matters.
